Community Profile: Linda Lafontaine
In November of 2021, Hope for Ataxia posted a blog about Linda Lafontaine as one of the “Faces of Ataxia” .
The following post is a second blog about Linda, but with a different perspective. The present blog is about a medical study that she is participating in. Linda’s reasoning for her participation is simple: Brain studies will benefit ALL people with brain disorders – not just those with ALS, PLS, HSP – everyone with a neurological condition.
So let’s get nerdy…
What is Ataxia
Ataxia is a Greek word and a catch-all phrase meaning imbalance. Ataxia is a symptom of many motor neuron diseases (MND). Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA), Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) are just a few examples.
